📋 Tasks and responsibilities
About the role
The Platform Engineer plays a central role within the platform team and supports the development, deployment, and operation of applications across the organization. In this position, you design, build, and maintain the shared foundations that application teams depend on, including pipelines, infrastructure, tooling, and operational standards, so software can be delivered faster, more securely, and with greater reliability.
You take ownership of a shared Azure DevOps pipeline template library used by multiple application teams, manage Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters including confidential compute scenarios, and automate infrastructure provisioning through Infrastructure as Code.
Platform engineering & infrastructure
- Design, build, and maintain Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) clusters in both private and public setups, including node pools, networking, ingress, autoscaling, and confidential compute workloads.
- Manage and further develop the Azure platform landscape, including subscriptions, resource groups, Key Vault, Azure Container Registry, Service Bus, Storage Accounts, SQL databases, managed identities, and RBAC.
- Operate and support OpenShift environments where needed.
- Safeguard platform security, reliability, observability, and compliance through network policies, TLS, access controls, and organizational standards.
- Contribute to monitoring and troubleshooting using tools such as Dynatrace, ELK, Prometheus, and Grafana where relevant.
CI/CD pipeline development & maintenance
- Develop and maintain reusable multi-stage CI/CD pipeline templates in YAML within Azure DevOps for broad organizational use.
- Build and optimize pipelines for build, test, packaging, and deployment of .NET applications, including Docker image creation, Azure Container Registry integration, database deployments using DACPAC and sqlpackage, and Service Bus provisioning.
- Write and maintain PowerShell Core 7+ modules and scripts supporting configuration generation, deployment mapping, secret retrieval, Terraform variable construction, and Helm-based deployments.
- Ensure pipelines apply security controls, quality gates such as SonarQube, and structured promotion flows across environments.
- Promote standardized and auditable release processes across development teams.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Design, write, and maintain Terraform modules for provisioning and configuring Azure resources, including AKS workloads through Helm, identity-related components, SQL users, Key Vault HSM keys, and Service Bus RBAC.
- Automate provisioning, scaling, and lifecycle management of infrastructure using Terraform, Azure CLI, and PowerShell.
- Manage Terraform state in Azure Storage with AAD authentication and help ensure safe, repeatable deployments across environments.
Repository & Azure DevOps administration
- Administer shared DevOps and deployment configuration repositories.
- Support version control practices, branching strategies, pull request validation, and repository governance.
- Manage Azure DevOps service connections, agent pools, variable groups, artifacts, and environment approvals.
Collaboration & enablement
- Act as a link between infrastructure and application teams to help integrate platform capabilities into day-to-day delivery workflows.
- Provide guidance on platform standards, deployment configuration, pipeline extension patterns, and issue resolution.
- Create and maintain technical documentation such as READMEs, onboarding guides, schema references, and usage instructions.
- Review contributions to shared platform code with attention to architectural consistency and backward compatibility.
📝 Your profile
You bring solid experience in platform engineering, application engineering, or a comparable technical role, with a strong focus on Azure-based delivery platforms and deployment automation.
- Hands-on experience with AKS, including networking, ingress, node pools, autoscaling, Helm deployments, and confidential compute scenarios.
- Strong understanding of DevOps principles, CI/CD practices, Git-based workflows, and deployment automation.
- Familiarity with the .NET build toolchain, NuGet package management, Visual Studio, solution and project structures, and containerization of .NET applications.
- Good command of PowerShell Core 7+, including robust scripting, modules, testing practices, and error handling.
- Broad knowledge of Azure services such as Key Vault, Azure Container Registry, Service Bus, Storage Accounts, SQL Database, managed identities, and RBAC.
- Experience with Terraform, including modules, providers, state management, and plan/apply workflows.
- Knowledge of Azure DevOps, including YAML pipelines, template composition, repositories, service connections, and agent pools.
- Understanding of networking concepts relevant to Azure and Kubernetes, such as VNets, NSGs, private endpoints, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, VPNs, ingress controllers, and proxy configuration.
- Insight into architecture principles such as separation of concerns, modularity, shared platform design, and extensibility.
- Experience with identity and access management, and ideally with Keycloak or OpenID Connect.
- Knowledge of API integration and messaging is a plus.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tooling such as Dynatrace, ELK Stack, Prometheus, and Grafana is an asset.
- OpenShift experience is a plus.
- You communicate effectively in Dutch, French, and English.
