Senior SCADA Application Developer (Freelance possible)

📋 Tasks and responsibilities

You will be part of a development team responsible for a business-critical SCADA system that operates 24/7 and supports the real-time balancing of an energy perimeter across several European countries. The scope is continuously expanding with the integration of smaller and more flexible assets.

The team develops tools to support the real-time control of power plants, the integration of flexibility assets, and compliance with European grid codes.

• Monitor production assets and the available capacities of power plants.
• Provide information exchanges between transmission system operators and the real-time SCADA system.
• Calculate real-time setpoints for power plants based on the production plan, real-time acquisition data, and reserve mechanisms such as FCR, aFRR and mFRR.
• Develop and maintain the SCADA application landscape used to keep the energy perimeter in balance.
• Work on both back-end and front-end development using a proprietary SCADA scripting language, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Apply architectural design principles to build scalable and robust solutions.
• Use software craftsmanship principles such as SOLID, DRY, KISS and YAGNI to create clean, maintainable and resilient code.
• Collaborate in an Agile/SAFe environment with analysts, dispatchers and technical teams.
• Contribute to on-call support after onboarding to help ensure system availability and grid stability.

📝Your profile

• Master's degree with a specialization in IT and/or electrical engineering (for example software, electronics or electromechanics).
• At least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in back-end development in an industrial or SCADA context.
• Experience with real-time and 24/7 business-critical systems.
• Strong software engineering skills, including architecture, design patterns, and writing clean, scalable and maintainable code.
• An industrial mindset with a strong focus on stability, risk awareness and controlled change.
• Ability to deliver safe changes in production, with attention to rollback scenarios and operational continuity.
• Understanding of the basics of electricity production and grid transport.
• Ownership and responsibility in critical environments, including incident handling and quick decision-making when issues occur.
• Ability to provide a rapid workaround when needed and to follow up with a sustainable fix.
• Proactive, structured and solution-driven approach, with the ability to remain effective in a high-responsibility environment.
• Motivation to work in a team responsible for real-time operations.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in complex organizations.
• Ability to learn independently and take initiatives to improve the environment and ways of working.
