Data Platform Architect Azure & Microsoft Fabric (Freelance possible)

📋 Tasks and responsibilities

This role focuses on owning and shaping the architecture of a data platform built on Azure and Power BI, with a planned evolution towards Microsoft Fabric. The main objective is to review the current setup in depth, identify structural weaknesses, and implement improvements that increase stability, scalability, and performance.

You will help prepare the platform for significant growth in data volumes and usage over the coming years. In parallel, you will play an active part in the transition to Microsoft Fabric. The environment is currently supported by an external partner, and you will be instrumental in capturing that knowledge internally through a structured handover and coaching approach.

This is a strongly hands-on architecture position. You remain close to the technology, can make technical adjustments independently, and combine architectural vision with practical execution. The role is not intended as a pure data engineering position and does not cover all routine day-to-day platform changes.

Key responsibilities

• Review the existing Azure and Power BI data platform and implement improvements for stability and performance.
• Define the target architecture to support substantial future growth in load and data volumes.
• Support and help drive the migration towards Microsoft Fabric.
• Coordinate knowledge transfer from the external partner and coach internal team members.
• Carry out hands-on technical corrections and adjustments where required.
• Contribute to data governance and master data management practices in collaboration with the broader architecture stakeholders and CRM domain lead.

Practical information

Work location: Brussels area
Reporting line: IT Manager, with day-to-day alignment with the Enterprise Architect
On-site presence: 2 days per week
