Functional Business Analyst (Freelance optional)

📋 Tasks and responsibilities

Within a large-scale business transformation programme, we are looking for an experienced functional analyst to strengthen the existing teams. In this role, you will contribute to handover activities, refactoring initiatives and greenfield development of new business applications in an Agile environment.

You will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle and will support the team by:

• Building strong, long-term relationships with business stakeholders, project stakeholders, team managers and relevant partners.
• Identifying, analysing, documenting and validating existing business processes as well as new functional and non-functional user needs.
• Translating requirements into business solutions through functional analyses and application designs.
• Working with technical team members to validate the functional design and help translate it into technical specifications.
• Following up end to end on the delivery of new functionalities and applications.
• Producing the documentation required during the different project stages.
• Collaborating closely with business analysts, developers and project coordinators to refine and validate proposed solutions.
• Supporting project managers by reporting status, facilitating decision-making, managing risks and escalating when needed.

Deliverables

You will be expected to deliver the following within agreed deadlines:

• Analysis documentation
• Software requirements specifications, including diagrams and supporting analysis
• Data models
• User stories
• Test plans and test cases

Mission & Working hours

The role is based in Brussels and allows up to 3 days of homeworking per week.

Work is organised from Monday to Friday.

Languages

• French or Dutch: active knowledge, including understanding, speaking, reading and writing technical documentation in one of these languages
• English: active written knowledge for documentation
• Knowledge of the second national language is a plus

📝Your profile

You bring confirmed experience as a Functional Analyst and are comfortable operating in a complex application landscape.

• Very strong functional and business analysis skills, with the ability to absorb complex material quickly
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both business and development teams
• Solution-oriented, customer-oriented and able to abstract complex topics clearly
• Comfortable working in changing business contexts and integrating quickly into an existing team
• Able to coach or supervise junior colleagues
• Hands-on experience with Agile / Scrum, BPMN, UML, user stories writing, test analysis & design and customer journey work
• Good working knowledge of Confluence and SQL
• The role does not require hands-on technical development, but it does require a solid understanding of technical terminology such as APIs, mappings, business models, batches and services
• Knowledge of environments using technologies such as J2EE, Java 8, Oracle, Hibernate, JUnit, Selenium, Maven, Git and Jira is an asset
• Able to interface with business stakeholders and help define their needs

Due to the nature of the activities, Belgian nationality is required.
