SAP ABAP Developer (Freelance possible)

📋 Tasks and responsibilities

As an SAP Developer, you translate functional specifications and discussions with functional analysts into robust technical solutions. You challenge proposed approaches where needed, estimate the required workload, and prepare or complete the technical specifications using the available templates. Before development starts, you ensure formal validation by the functional analyst and alignment with the applicable technical architecture.

• Analyze and implement SAP Notes.
• Develop code in line with application standards, naming conventions, SAP best practices, governance rules, and quality controls such as ABAP Test Cockpit checks.
• Ensure developments are modular, reusable where possible, and written in Object-Oriented ABAP unless an agreed exception applies.
• Discuss and formally align any deviation from the technical specifications with the functional analyst during implementation.
• Collaborate closely with the SAP Basis team on topics such as authorizations, infrastructure, and technical system configuration.
• Execute and document unit tests using the test data provided, ensuring coverage of functional and non-functional aspects such as performance, query optimization, mass processing, and technical connectivity.
• Highlight key attention points for the functional analysts during their testing activities.
• Support deployments to test, acceptance, and production environments when needed, including occasional work outside regular business hours.
• Investigate reported defects from test phases or production incidents and resolve them in coordination with the relevant functional analyst.
• Produce technical documentation for each developed object based on the implemented solution and the technical specifications.

For more advanced assignments, you may also contribute as a senior technical specialist within the team.

• Design and implement solutions for complex or highly specialized SAP topics requiring strong technical expertise.
• Help analyze and implement non-functional requirements related to security, reliability, availability, performance, maintainability, operability, and compatibility between component versions.
• Act as a technical reference and SPOC for specific complex subjects within the team.
• Contribute to the definition and continuous improvement of development frameworks, standards, tools, and working methods.
• Support the design of cross-functional and enterprise-wide SAP solutions.
• Share expertise with colleagues and coach less experienced developers during specification and implementation phases.

📝 Your profile

• Proven experience as an SAP Backend Developer.
• Strong hands-on expertise in SAP S/4HANA development and Core Data Services (CDS Views).
• Solid knowledge of classical ABAP as well as Object-Oriented ABAP.
• Experience with SAP interface development, including IDoc/ALE, BAPI/RFC, SOAP Web Services, OData, and SAP Gateway.
• Proven background as an SAP IS-U Developer within the utilities sector.
• Experience across at least 3 SAP IS-U functional domains such as Device Management (DM), Structuring/Switching, Metering, Energy Data Management (EDM), Billing, Customer Services (CS), or Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
• Experience with key SAP development tools.
• Knowledge of Adobe Forms, BOR objects, and data migration tools such as LSMW and EMIGALL.
• Experience with SAP Fiori development, including Fiori Launchpad.
• Good knowledge of Web Dynpro, BRF+, SAP BPEM/EMMA, BOL, SAP CRM, and the MPM/IDEX-GC Framework.
• Familiarity with S/4HANA Embedded Analytics.
• Knowledge of additional technical areas such as Dynpro/Dialog Programming, FEH, BOPF, and FPM in Web Dynpro is an asset.
• Experience with supporting tools such as Jira, Omnitracker, SAP Solution Manager, and SOAP UI.
• Master's degree in Information Technology.
• Fluent English and a good command of French and/or Dutch.
