Freelance — Senior QHSE Engineer

🛠️ Department description and responsibilities

As a Senior QHSE Engineer, you will support infrastructure and civil works projects, including activities with onshore scope and occasional offshore visits. You coordinate and oversee daily QHSE matters on site and help ensure that work is carried out in line with applicable standards, procedures and legal requirements.

🛠️ Primary Tasks and responsibilities

• Advise site teams and the workforce on QHSE topics, and organise training sessions, inductions and toolbox talks.
• Carry out audits and inspections to verify the effectiveness of QHSE programmes and controls.
• Identify improvement opportunities, issue recommendations and follow up on the implementation of corrective measures.
• Review internal risk assessments and support the implementation of mitigation actions.
• Support, maintain and continuously improve the QHSE management system.
• Escalate significant QHSE issues and communicate improvement initiatives to the relevant stakeholders.
• Assist with incident investigations by collecting the required documentation, monitoring corrective actions and checking the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
• Apply and maintain up-to-date knowledge of labour legislation, codes of practice and regulatory developments relevant to the UK environment.

📝 Your profile

• You have 7+ years of experience in a similar QHSE role.
• You hold a MSc degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering, or you have equivalent experience.
• Alternatively, you hold a MSc degree in Safety Engineering and are Prevention Advisor Level 1.
• You have very good knowledge of UK legislation, including CDM. Knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, WAHR, Temporary Works, Excavations, Confined Spaces and HDD is an advantage.
• You have very good knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
• You are fit for offshore work and willing to visit offshore locations when needed.
• You have a good working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Basic Safety Training such as CSCS, VCA, BOSIET, STCW or FOET is required.
• NEBOSH certification is required.
• You are fluent in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
• You are pragmatic, proactive and forward-thinking.
• You are a team player with strong communication skills and a tactful approach.
• You are service-minded and solution-oriented.
• You think critically and analytically.
• You work accurately and organise your work efficiently.
• You are resident in the UK or hold a valid UK visa and work permit.
